Pillow Cases

Improve Home Décor With Home Made Pillowcases

Pillow cases not only serve the purpose of protecting the pillows from dust and stains, but also impart them an elegant or decorative look depending upon the kind of pillow case you go for. Pillowcases are usually made out of cotton or silk. Hypoallergenic pillowcases are also available for the people who are prone to allergic reactions. These pillowcases are made out of special kind of fabric that effectively prevents allergy triggers. Numerous types of pillows cases are available in the market. You can choose the kind that matches with the hangings/walls/rugs of your rooms. If you find procuring pillowcases from the market expensive, you have the option to sew them at home. Sewing pillowcases is a simple task. Read on to learn how.

Sewing Pillow Cases At Home

Step-by-step instructions for sewing a decorative pillow are given below:
  1. Cut two squares or rectangles of equal size (as per the size of pillow you propose to house in the cover) from the fabric you choose leaving 1/2-inch margins on all sides for seam.
  2. Position the corresponding sides of the two pieces together and stitch three sides of the cover. Stitch the fourth side at each corner for 2-3 inches only leaving rest of it open for inserting the pillow. You can either fix a zipper in the fourth side (which is left open) or simply hand-stitch it after inserting the pillow inside.
  3. Press the seam margins to flatten them.
  4. Once the basic shape of your pillowcase is ready, you can proceed in different manners to give it a decorative look. You can simply gather up the corners one by one using your fingers and tie them up with fancy cords. You can also attach fringes on all four sides. Thus, your decorative pillowcase is ready for use.
  5. If you know the art well enough, you can give your pillowcase an exquisite look by painting beautiful shapes over it.
  6. Next time you need to replace your pillowcase, follow the steps enumerated above to sew the same at home.
